RAM usage in Windows

Hello all, apologies if this has been covered... I couldn't find it anywhere. In any case here's the problem:

I'm working on a patch that I have to make Windows compatible. I've built it in OSX, and it runs fine. But when I try to run it in Windows, I get buffer~ out of memory errors. I've got quite a few active (4 mono, 5 stereo, 289000ms). However, when I check my resources usage, I should have plenty. The Win partition is quite clean, and I only really use it for things like this. Of 8GB RAM I'm only using 2. The patch, when all buffers are active, uses 1.2. When I check Windows resources, it says I have 5.7GB in Standby, and a few hundred MB Free. I've watched the meters while activating buffers, and it seems Max uses the memory allocated to Free. Is there anyway to get it to use the Standby? I've been off Windows for several years, so my troubleshooting chops are getting rusty... Ultimately I think I'm going to rewrite the patch to handle this differently anyway, but just wondering if anyone has an answer to how to deal with this in case I run into it again?

It's a Win7 partition on an MBP, Max 5.1.9

I guess it should work on paper, but I've had issues loading similarly sized collections of samples into 32bit Max (I think 5.1.9 was 32bit only right?). It would be interesting to see if running with a 64bit version of Max would make your patch run fine. I suspect it would.
