Re: ELO touchscreen question
i am currently searching for an add on touchscreen. it wont need a monitor.
just the touchpad. i would like to lay it somewhere or build it inside a
case or something and then use it to control max. but there are a lot of
drivers which are just emulating a mouse, and that is not what i want.
if some of you know the wacom external, there is the possibillity to use the
wacom tablet only in max.
is there any solution out there? i am just totaly confused on all the stuff
which is offered...
i think of an 15" add on touch panel which should work on mac osx 10.3.9 and
later, also on intel macs...
any advice would be great!
thanks in advance.

Hello,
The wacom external can work without the mouse pointer because wacom have implemented this function in the driver, and because the wacom object call this fuction.
I don't know if elo touchscreens could have the same behaviour, but you can look if they provide an API for the devellopers of software that uses an elo touchscreen; may be you can find some info there...
Jean-Michel
salut jean-michel,
thanks for your answer.
and many thanks for the great wacom external, you wrote!
and yes, i am thinking of a similar external for add-on touchscreens.
there is a company (egalax) which supports a controller for touchscreen
which has drivers also for osx and also for the new intel machines.
but first, i am not sure which add-on touch screen fits together with the
egalax controller.
and second, i am not sure what the egalax driver is supporting.
and third, if the api is offering something like a separated function call,
from the mouse call...
there is a brief description form their website:

all the best,

Hi
I use a Elotouch 2500U (Intellitouch technology) with max.
it's driver just emulate the mouse, but it works very well. I had to
customize my GUI in max (with bigger buttons, sliders, joysticks...) it
works great, much faster than using a mouse.
My touchscreen is supposed to send pressure data too, but as it is
recognized by the system as a mouse, I have no idea on how to get this data.
(Hi do not see it).
I asked Elotouch, they just told that I have to write my own driver to get
pressure data... (there is a sdk, ...but I have no idea on how to do that!)
the resolution of the touch surface is much bigger than the resolution of
the screen (just like wacom tablets) and I would love to have a
"touchscreen" max object to be able able to use the full resolution &
pressure of my touchscreen (and maybe disable mouse emulation could be
useful too, just like with the wacom object).
I know nothing about writing driver, but I would be very interested by
testing anything that could improve my use of this screen...
best

Hi Mathieu,
I downloaded the drivers from the ELOtouch.com website. It all works
great now. I guess I should have checked there before posting to the
list. Duh.
