have you searched the forum for "parsing text file"?

have you searched your max documentation for "text"?

text, jit.textfile, regexp all come to mind.

I managed to figured out a way of retrieving the data, using as you mentioned a combination of jit.uldl and regexp objects. I used them in creating a piece of music using data from a radio telescope from Jodrell Bank, Cheshire UK.
