Reading files from a shared network folder; Copying files

I'm hoping to use a file from a shared network folder, but I've so far haven't been able to do it.

Example: an open message sent to an sfplay~ opens the dialogue where I can navigate to the shared folder (My Network Places, etc) and the file, but opening it causes Max to crash. I think this is becase the file path starts with backslashes instead of C: D: etc. Any suggestions?

Also, while I can send and receive video, audio and data across a network, is there a way I could copy files from one computer to another using max objects?

Thanks for any help

I had exactly the same problem some time ago...
You obviously use Windows (important to mention...)
Simply assign a drive letter to your shared folder, and use the
resulting path...

On a Mac there is a 3rd party shell object, it might be possible to hack
some java code... search the archives, there seems to be a way to do it
in Windows, but it always sounded like a hack to me (Max is not an
operating system...)
