Recovered File - What's it mean?

I recently noticed a folder called Recovered Files in my system trash that appears following a reboot after I've been running Max. Inside this folder is one called "maxMSP-mxt" and in that is a text file called "oobo" .

Anyone know what this is, why it's happening, and if I should be concerned?

thanks

David

Probably because Max crashed? (Or didn't close properly at your last Shut Down/Restart/Log Out).

In general I don't think there's much you can recover from the Max recovered files. The "Recovered Files" in your trash are simply OS X's way of clearing out temp files from crashed apps.

Hmm, but the patch isn't crashing. Actually, that's why I noticed it in the first place - I still remember the days when we HAD to empty the Trash after Max crashed - but what was odd about this was that there hadn't _been any crashes.

The patcher I've been working with does contain a load of scripted buffer~s, which aren't deleted when I quit max (always without saving the patch) - I wonder if it could be that?
I'm trying to think back - I _think I close the patch before quitting max, but maybe not always (as it's at the end of a workshop session that I close the patch) - would that make a difference?

And you're right about there not being much info in the file. I think the last one I opened had

""

in it, or something like that!

I have noticed it happening too. Recovered files and in them some MAX files.
Mostly, some training files or patches about objects.

can somebody please explain why this is happening???

One meter above sea level (about the highest point in NL), and experiencing similar behavior as mentioned by others.

Hello,

This is a verifiable issue; I have it happen every time I exit MaxforLive on a Macbook Pro using Snow Leopard. Live 8.1/MaxforLive puts a "recovered files" folder in the Trash and creates two sub-folders, one for Live and one for Max, each with its own little useless "oobo" file (no, it does not play the solo from Gershwin's "American in Paris" suite, unfortunately).

I have reported this on the Ableton Support forum, under "oobo?" as subject header. Apparently this issue has been around for awhile, there's a thread here started a year ago with it.

Going through a "Repair Permissions" cycle with Disk Utility does not change anything.

It's a small problem, but an annoyance; I hope someone at Cycling74/Ableton will resolve it promptly.

Bump. It's really annoying!

As far as I remember "recovered files" in the trash on reboot was standard behavior in the olden days of OS 9. So I suspect there is still some legacy code causing it. Please remove that nonsense.

Bump, bump! I had hoped that this problem would be fixed in Max 6.
