Does someone know what it means when some .pat files are shown in blue and when initialised open Photoshop?

I had to reinstall and it seems that something went wrong...

Photoshop uses a ".pat" extension, some kind of pattern file. This
made for some problems in the computer lab at our school, where some
students were using Max/MSP, others Photoshop, and when the Maxers
were downloading example files with the .pat extension, the would
automatically open in Photoshop. On a Mac, you can select which
program will open up which file extension: from the Finder, Get Info
on a file with the .pat extension, and you should see a prompt: "Open
with:" Select Max/MSP. It has a "Use this application to open all
documents like this" option.

I'm sure there's a way to do this with a PC, too, I just don't know
exactly how it works...

YOu need to right click on the file and change the file to open using
Max/Msp....open with. When the dialogue appears then change all.
