Rendering named "sprites" using openGL

hi all
I'm trying to create a patch that would enable me to sketch, as with the photoshop "brush", some shapes on a videoplane, and have each shape become a 2d "sprite" (upon lifting the mouse / pressing a key), that can later be rotated, transformed, etc. The sprites are to have their texture based on the movie texture of the background videoplane. Actually the original max lcd object has something similar. My question is whether there is a possibility of creating named shapes via jit.gl.sketch, gridshape or any other object? Any ideas would be welcome.

Sorry for bumping this up, I'm just continuing to be really stumped on this and would really appreciate any kind of help / ideas at all.
