The chooser object has an attribute @multiselect 1

That's great, but nearly totally useless, if you don't give the object at least the possibility to be set the same way by a message like "set multiselected <[items]/[indices]> <[items]/[indices].

It is the only programmable GUI in MAX that allows visible multiple selection of items. 

Nobody want's to spend years with radiogroups where you have to create comment boxes and change them whenever your list of indices changes...
