Running Max MSP from an external hard drive?
Hello All,
My good old Powerbook G4 recently crashed from what appears to be a failed logic board. Luckily I was able to extract the hard drive and get it safely into a new external enclosure. I don't have a new replacement machine yet, so I can't boot my old OS from the hard drive, though I can plug it in and access all my files and software.
What I'm wondering is if it's possible to run Max MSP from the external hard drive without booting the OS that it was installed onto. Has anyone done this before? Does it work? Is it allowed?
Thank you all in advance for any thoughts and/or advice you have on this matter.
It should work, yes.
Timothy,
Thank you for the response. I attempted to run Maxp MSP from the hard drive while it was plugged into (and mounted on) a MacBook Pro. Unfortunately the OS on that machine did not recognize my version as being registered, and I was given the '30 day trial' pop up window.
This leads me to believe that I must actually boot from the external hard drive in order for Max MSP to access its actual registration files and run as the full (unlocked) version. Luckily - if this is true - I have a replacement machine arriving via snail mail by Friday at the latest.
reauthorise after it is been installed elsewhere should be enough.
