Save and Recall Snapshots from VST Plugins

This may seem like a ridiculous question, but I can't figure out how the save and recall snapshot buttons work. They don't seem to save the parameters as a message, and there doesn't seem to be the "Device Snapshot Manager" as there is in Max for Live.
Has anyone else figured this one out yet?

- Apr 04 2015 | 11:26 pmexcept the vst~ help file isn't very effective with these new audio unit plugins, unfortunately. there is a save and recall snapshot button built into these Max 7 AU's, but they don't do anything. Hitting the "snapshot" message won't do anything, and there's no outlet for a snapshot data dump, either as a saved file or a message that could be set.
