Same problem here, I'm on XP SP2. The problem started afeter upgrading from 5.08 to 5.1
I am able to save the file to a new name, then I see "filewatch started on on file X" and then I can only save to a new name.

I'm having the same problem. Since there's been no answer to the previous posts, I assume there may be some obvious solution I am missing, but I've searched the forums with no results so far.

Can anybody help, please?

For me the problem is still there. No "obvious solution" yet :( I suspect it is something related to the system folder "Max 5 Preferences Files". In windows 7, C:UsersxxxxxxxAppDataRoamingCycling '74. ( to see it you have to unhide hidden files). In my case, there is no way to add a "file path" in the MAX "options/file preferences" when save error occurs.

I can´t believe such a huge bug.
Any clues from the developers on this subject would be really nice...

I don't have a lot to say, only that I still have the same problem mentioned in this thread, and that the best thing to do for us n00bs(who have the problem) to bump this thread and trust the developers to sort it out before the next Max upgrade...
Good luck, devs!

OS: Windows Vista
Version: Max 5.1

Same problem as above:
"jpatcher_saveto: error -1 writing *.maxpat"
"filewatcher_start: file [*.maxpat] doesn't appear to exist"

Did somebody allready come up with a solution?

You should check system permissions for the path, where you want to save your file. If you work with multiple user accounts that thing could happend.
