Up until now I have only routed OSC within my own machine.

If I want to send it to another PC do I just need setup the PC with a static IP address?

Should I do it through a router or if I connect directly with an ethernet cable would I need a crossover cable instead?

I think you need the crossover cable if you're going directly. if you use the router (or wireless one) things should be fine. Just set up the other computer with a static IP and use that for your messaging.
