Sending audio data from Max to Ableton?

I'd like to route audio output data, not just MIDI data, to Max (not Max for Live). The goal is to play a MIDI connected to Max and then add that to my Ableton track live. Is there some way to do this?

Thanks so much!

I'm not quite certain what you intend by "play a MIDI connected to Max," but here is how to get Max MSP audio into Live via ReWire.

Open Max. In the Options menu, choose Audio Status.... and select ad_rewire as your Driver. Quit Max. Open Live. Set Max 7 as the Audio From source for an audio track. Choose 1/2: Max 7 1 Max 7 2 as the input channels. Click the Monitor [In] button. Open Max. Make a patch that sends audio out dac~ channels 1 and 2. Turn MSP on.

If I had to do this, I would use an audio hijack solution like Loopback (https://rogueamoeba.com/loopback/) or Jack (http://www.jackaudio.org/). I personally use Loopback, which is incredibly flexible and stable.

With a solution like this, the tool of your choice (Loopback or Jack, depending on your budget and taste) is the output device you specify in Max. In Live, you select this as the audio input device and you're set to go.

Best,

Thanks! What do you think of Soundflower?

I used to use Soundflower as well. However Cycling '74 handed over support to Rogue Amoeba, who in turn no longer actively support it. When I ran into actual problems, I grabbed some cash and bought Loopback, which I don't regret at all.

Soundflower works flawlessly for me. It doesn't have unnecessary UI, simple to set up and use. Over the years didn't have a single problem with it.

Loopback is awesome...set it and forget it.
