Sending MIDI to other applications (beginner help)

My understanding is that when using the object "midiout" or "noteout" you should see a virtual output option which can be routed to other applications. I only see Microsoft Synthesizer, Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth and my USB MIDI interface. I'm using MAX 6 and Windows 7 64-bit. I have looked through the max docs and in every dialog box I can find for a way to enable virtual MIDI. I assume this is some sort of OS setting I'm missing. Any help? Thanks.

You have checked the MIDI Setup... window to ascertain that those virtual ports are enabled, yes?MIDI Setup Window

      Christopher,
The virtual ports do not show up as options in the MIDI setup window..any thoughts?
      Thanks

Sorry, I overlooked that you're on Windows (even though you said so quite plainly in your initial post). I think those virtual ports are Mac only. This page of the manual says "At the present time, CoreMIDI is the only driver which supports the creation of virtual MIDI ports."

      Christopher,
I must have missed that sentence when I read that page. Oh well.
      Sysex,
      That looks like the solution.
      Thank you both!
