sending out ascii code

Okay..... can someone send me in the right direction...

We have noteout, midiout, and ctlout........ for notes and control numbers. How do I send out an ASCII key code?

Point me in the right direction and I'll do my homework!

Maybe the serial object will help?

I'm using MAX on a MAC controlling Digital Performer. I would love to send out a Key Commands or an ASCII key code that DP will respond to. In the COMMANDS of DP you can set it to respond to a midi note, but as of yet I cannot get the midi command to work nor can a friend of mine who is a DP addict.

P.S. Thank you for the responses.

So what you'd like is to send a keyboard shortcut. This is not obvious, and requires to use AppleScript. If that's really the way you want to go, I have a small patch here that sends an Undo to Ableton Live...

But believe me: it is possible to control DP thru MIDI: you need to assign the MIDI code you'd like to the commands you want AND you need to activate both Master Master and Transport Master commands groups in DP's Commands window (the commands groups are the first lines of the window).

I saw in DP's doc that it now uses OSC too, but as far as I understood a full duplex TCP socket is needed, which may explain why I didn't get any results with OSC so far...

Hope it helps

Sorry for the delay, I forgot your post...

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.

It's certainly more reliable and powerfull to control DP thru MIDI, but here is the patch to perform an undo of Ableton Live on a Mac. Please note it is an old patch…
The shell object is required.
