serial via usb

Hi,
I want to use a self made interface which has a RS232 connector with Max on my laptop via usb. I bought an adapter serial to usb to connect both. Now I'm trying to get some data into Max via the serial object, but it doesn't work. Has anyone experience with the serial object and a usb-serial adapter?
Thanks in advance for help!

Hi Ursula,

I'm using the Keyspan USA 19HS adapter with a self made interface and it works great. Make sure the baud's speed matches in both your interface and max; and that max/msp actually sees the serail port.

hello

a quite useful thing to do : send message "print" to serial object
and look at max window to know what port is using your device. serial
object should be set to operate with this port at baud speed and
parity characteristics of your device.

Most Wintel computers have a COM1 port which has 9 pins/sockets this is
your RS232 interface
