If I open a sf recording patch or create one and try to record sound, the recorded file is very distorted. Only sometimes after turning the dac on and off once or twice, am I able to record clean files.

I had this with crashed drivers of an audio interface. If switching on/off audio, it might be your hardware...

The problem was solved by trashing the "Max 5 Preferences" folder from ~/Library/Preferences.
