sfrecord~ with four channels

Hello,

I have been trying to record four-channel sound with Max/msp with weird
problems. I have three macs which do not work, and one that does.

If I open file, route audio to
sfrecord~ 4
object, make it record and stop it, I get a wav file which
can not be opened with QuickTime or Matlab.
The file saved with one computer opens easily.
The problematic files can not be opened with Matlabs in any computers.
So, the error seems to be in the file created with max/msp.

Matlab error: Data compression format (Format #65279) is not supported.

Computers which create problematic files:
G4, 500 MHz DP, OS X.4, max/msp 4.5.7
G5, Imac, OS X.4, max/msp 4.5.7
G4, Ibook, 800MHz, OS X.4, max/msp 4.3.1

Computer which creates ok files:
G5, 2GHz DP Powermac, OS X.4, max/msp 4.3.1

I have tried different buffer lengths, overdrive on/off, different I/O /
signal buffer lengths.

Any suggestions?

Best regards,
Ville Pulkki

I think until recently there was no standard whatsoever for multichannel
wav files. I know there is some proposal out, which might be followed by
the more recent Mac.

With aif multichannel files are defined for ages. I just guess its a
quicktime issue, an upgrade to a more recent quicktime might solve it
also for multichannel wav files.
