[share] synth snare in progress
So I've been having a bash at synthesising some drum sounds at the minute to learn things and all that. This is the resulting snare from starting with the sound on sound synth secrets articles and fiddling around. I like it but it is pretty basic, somewhere between realistic and synthetic i guess. The gen wave shaper is sktr's and the mixer thingy is from a post by peter mcculloch.
I've been wondering how to get a real 'crack' sound in there like a super snappy snare sound...any ideas out there?
other thoughts and comments most welcome.
EDIT: you might need MAX 6 for this since it uses filterdesign

just a +1 for the synthsecrets series of articles; made my nylon string guitar model come alive!

yeah they are damned handy, just wish there were more of em. Got a nice kick and hand clap and also I have a high hat in progress. I've been trying to synthesise a decent crash/ride cymbal too but it seems like thats the holy grail of percussion or something :P I can't even get a good synthetic one at the minute which blows...maybe I'll chuck that up here if I get round to tidying it up.
Not sure who posted it originally (Jhno?), but here's a nice synthetic cymbal patch that was posted on the list way back when it was still a list,
Cheers

hey thanks, that's a very interesting patch, I didn't find that when I searched the forums a while back. It has similarities to my attempt but a very different sonic result. It definitely needs some filtering though as it says, maybe a bit of white noise mixed in too.
