(sharing) gen~ fractals
hi
I would like to post another patch which i was working with for a while, its a sound interpretation of the curlicue fractal. I find it a fascinating algorithm ,, it reacts very differently than any algorithm I have tried from the world of chaos / attractors.. I am really interested to hear if anyone else around this forum would be working on fractals, for instance : I have for months tried to think about a sound-interpretation for the boundary fractals like the Mandelbrot and Julia sets but haven't yet found, seen or heard it.. I watched some fine interviews with Mr. Mandelbrot himself , and one thing that really opened a window was his emphasis on experimenting with interpretations - from one description to another.. Anyway - critics and suggestions are super welcome.

(gen is a strong tool, thanks for that)
Spooky - I'm enjoying listening to this...
I was trying to understand how it works, and in the process made a few cosmetic edits which I think might make it a bit easier to read. You can refer to a global history or param within a codebox by declaring it inside the codebox also; this avoids the need for all those inlets to the codebox! Unfortunately the same doesn't hold for assigning to the histories, but maybe we'll get that working in a future update. Also param objects can take @min and @max attributes to do the clipping for you (also a little bit more efficient).
Hi
thank you very much for the 'cosmetic corrections'' very much appreciated, - Yes the curlicue is wicked, surely a different species than the attractors, (also not only audible but visible when exporting longer sound-files and looking at them) its like the inner organic life of math, -- there are many pictures on the web where curlicue draws on the plane , making a different form depending on which irrational number it is fed...,, i have been searching the web the past 3 months for similar 'walking forward fractal' algorithms, but haven't found more yet, maybe they need discovery.. ??
I am really enjoying gen, it is very powerful. and by some great mistake i just found out i had bought jitter when updating to max6, well, will have to look into it, but eventually possibilities to explore the boundary fractals in the plane, and maybe use them as spectral info or in other ways, like in the other discussion in this forum :image to audio...
greetings
You're the best! I was just looking at a demonstration of this in Mathematica and was planning on implementing it in gen but decided to put it off for a bit when I saw how much math was required.
Randomly an hour later I stumble on this looking for help with gen~.
Thanks!
Hi
I am doing research in existing fractal music (as a musician not a mathematician and kinda new to gen~). You patch sounds cool - I would really like to understand what generates the sound?? I see no oscillator/or such. Just numbers going straight into audio outlets. Is the sound then the direct sound of numbers?
If I wanted to transpose it down 4 octaves for example, could I subtract the outcome, would it still have the integrity of the fractal?
Thanks!! very curios...
This is super cool! It would be great to add other implementations of fractal/attractors.
I'm always looking for such things! Thank you!
