showing current selection on a playlist?

Hi folks,
How do I get a playlist~ object to display the current selection (the one that is playing)? I see how I can use a print message and show it in the console, but can't I take that same information and send it to some kind of box to just display it within the body of the patcher? Better yet, I'd like to just display which of 10 tracks is playing (just the number). How do I do that?
