simple Motorsound (combustine engine)
Hi,
does anyone have an idea how to realize a synthetic cumbustion engine simulation to prototype an Sound for a game?
Best,

here's a start:

This patch has a simplistic/unscientific cheap synthesized engine effect:Example 17: Calculating doppler shift for moving virtual sound sources.
Have you read Andy Farnell's book Designing Sound? There's a good PD example there. I converted it to Max a while back with some changes. I've been meaning to post it for a while now, so could speed that up if you like. I ended up making a sort of 4-stroke cycling vector synth with modulation between each oscillator, slightly different to Andy's example. Resonant filters to simulate body resonances go a long way to making the sound much more realistic.
If you've not read it though, the book should be your priority.

The excellent sources you (rightly) refer to regularly. Have they been collated into one single archive/resource? There's so much good stuff there, but the chronology/hierarchy means I occasionally miss some really good stuff. Like the example above. Huge apologies for the ambush.

@n00b_meister I'm working on collecting all the examples I've produced over several years of teaching computer music classes (and posting on this forum) on a single website with indexing and keyword searching. Till that's done, this page has links to a lot of them: Examples
Excellent news Christopher.
