Simple Noise Reduction

Hello,
I'm wanting to use a very basic nose reduction on an audio recording. Does anyone have any suggestions or patches.
its basically just to apply noise reduction onto an audio file. I'd like to be able to alter the reduction capacity of it also.
I'm very new to max also
Thanks
G

What technique do you wish to use to do the noise reduction? Are you interested in adaptive filtering for a live source? Reducing the noise floor of an existing file? Those two things would have very different answers, in many cases, and neither of them are necessarily "very basic" in terms of how you'd go about doing them.

Perhaps opening the search window in your patcher and typing "noise reduction" into the text box might give you some options to pursue [searching there is very useful since it's going to flag not only external objects, but also tutorials or Forum posts].

just license something from lake technology inc. ;)

no, i guess searching"noise gate" in max or here would be the best idea.

Help->Reference->MSP Tutorials->MSP Analysis Tutorial 4: Signal Processing with pfft~ includes a spectral noise gate, which is a rough reduction algorithm.
Depending on your experience with Max, if you want to process sound files (not live), then you might give Audacity's Noise Reduction a try (in Audacity: Effects->Noise Reduction...)

Thank you for your replies!

Yes I am aware of audacities version, I was just wondering whether you can make it and allow for alteration over the degree of noise or signal you can omit or include. I'll take a look at the tutorial thanks.
