Slow response after max startup

Lately when I have been opening max, for about 2 minutes or so after starting up the program it runs incredibly sluggish, everything takes anywhere between 3 and 15 seconds to happen, like if I click on the menu at the top it will take 3 seconds to appear, and then I click DAC settings and it will take 10 seconds to appear... its really strange.. and then after a few minutes it starts working normaly.
I dont remember this happening before.. and I haven't changed anything that I can think of. Has anyone else had this problem and is there something I can do to fix this?

Perhaps a not very useful response, but I've had the same problems since at least 5.0.5.
I'm wondering if it might be looking for something, perhaps it's the number of sound files I have in the search path?

Most likely, the launch time is indeed caused by the number of files in the search path. Try removing all user added preferences paths and see if it helps. If it does, I'm afraid all you'll have to do is removing your preferences paths or be patient while Max load and when it's ready. In either case, no fun...

yeah that was what I thought initially, but then explain why this didn't happen until recently (max 5.05) even though I haven't gotten that many new externals??

I just noticed if I turn on and off the audio and overdrive it seems to make the speed go back to normal, can you confirm if this works?
