smooth waveform~ display...
hello all,
just a quick question to ask.
i like using waveform~ mainly just to show a display of the wave being used, and sometimes to mess around with the sample in general.
BUT...
the display of waveform~ can look dated and a bit, pishe.
so how could i mess with it to make it look smoother and nicer.
this idea came to me when i saw a nice program and hardware built with max 5 and arduino. the program shows a smooth looking waveform in the video.http://www.lucaderosso.com
hope you can help...
ah ha, i found out from the maker of the hardware and program that the smoothness of the waveform~ as primarily a .png file.
this is a shame as the waveform~ on it was nice.
but if anybody does know how to smooth out the waveform~, please do tell.
cheers...
I'm sure I've seen a way to create a waveform display really easily with jitter objects. It would be possible to create a display with variable smoothness, and then overlay a completely transparent waveform~ on top for the editing.
Sorry, I can't remember where I saw this, I may have a patch but my laptop with max on it is dead atm, so I can't have a look!
argh
edit----------
I was thinking of jit.scope, which would only be able to display the currently playing audio, not a static waveform of a buffer. It looks very cool though!
still, I'm sure jitter has a solution hidden inside it somewhere
thats great tim, thanks.
i will try and press on and make the best of it, and hopefully find a solution.
damn technology, even though it is fast, can do word processing, make music and even search the many earth of the internet. they still need that care. it is an ass sometimes ...
Just found a thread on this, check out the second patch from Graham Wakefield, it displays a buffer in OpenGL, which looks just like the waveform~ display, but I'm sure it can be tweaked!
cool patch
oooh, thats very helpful, thanks.
i will take a gander at that now.
thanks again...
when looking at this, i am sure i came across something like this ages ago. i obviously cant remember where though
but this is a nice patch and again thanks for the fishing of it. it has brought up a few good ideas for editing samples and all that jazz.
you see, i am making an application for the machine drum. basically making an extension of it. somebody made ages ago a machine drum editor. but mine is more an extension of effects and mess-around-ability
aye...
I've just sneakily downloaded max5 onto a friend's computer......
I found a really cool jitter example that creates a smooth waveform -ish blob of incoming audio.
It's in jitter-examples/audio/jit.gl.nurbs-audiorender.maxpat
Thought you might find it interesting, I'm completely new to jitter, so I don't know if it's possible/easy to do a similar thing to view a static buffer in a similar way as that patch, but it sure looks cool!
Also, bit off topic, but there are some REALLY interesting patches (especially the 3D one......) in the jitter_pvoc folder in jitter-examples/audio. Can't wait to get my comp back and start matrix-bashing!
i would start using an extra copy of the sample in another buffer, which is a lowpass
filtered version of the original to use that for displaying in waveform~.
and if display sspeed isnt an issue, lcd or jit.lcd leaves room for fantasy.
