Snow Leopard + Max 5 Documentation

You bleeding-edgers might have noticed that Max's in-program documentation stopped working reliably with Snow Leopard. First and foremost, links between the docs aren't working. There are also a few display issues (particularly with the See Also section).

This is all due to a rather exotic bug in new versions of Safari, WebKit, libxslt or some combination of them. We've filed a bug report with Apple, but that probably won't help you immediately.

If you want your documentation to work properly again, simply move the folder "docs" from the "Cycling '74" folder to the "patches" folder and restart Max. We will adjust future installers to place the documentation in this location in the future.

Hey Jeremy

I have placed the docs folder in patches but the "open patcher" function in the bottom of the reference pages is grayed out as if the path is broken.

Is there a file somewhere in Max, where I can change the path so the function will work again ?

You don't need to move anything anymore. Jeremy's comment was related to a version of Max which existed before Snow Leopard. Since 5.0.8 the documentation folder is located in your Max5/patches/docs/ folder without you needed to do anything.

Could you describe a bit more what reference page you're opening? and what you see.

I have attached a jpg with a reference page, where you can see that the open patcher button at the bottom is grayed out.
It is the same behaviour for all the max, msp & jitter object reference pages.

And the "open patcher" function isn't working on the tutorial pages either.
Screendump is attached.

Hi Thomas,

Lets try doing a clean install. To clean out Max 5 entirely, remove these items:

~/Library/Preferences/Max5 Preferences Folder
/Applications/Max5

Then download and reinstall the latest Max 5 release:

If you are still having problems, please email me at support at cycling 74 dot com.

All right. I will do that. Thanks :)

Hi Ben

I have finally had the time to do a clean install of the Max 5 App and the Preferences folder.

The "openpatcher" function on the reference & tutorial pages worked again after the install - in the beginning.
But as I moved my 3party externals and abstractions folders into the patches folder again and installed Taptools 3 and maxtoolbox then the "openpatcher" function stopped working again and the button turned gray ?
Very strange !!
