softvns on a powerbook

Does someone know if SoftVns runs smooth on the new Macbooks ?
I'm thinking of buying a Macbook just to be able to use SoftVns... But I wonder to buy a secondhand Powerbook or a new Macbook.

If you have a comment, please let me know.

Thank you !

There's no mention of a UB version on David Rokeby's web site
(you *did* look there first, right?), at present. One of the reason the
software ran so quickly and so well on non-Intel Macintoshes was
that David spent quite a lot of time optimizing his objects for the
Altivec. To the extent to which that's true, the act of porting his software
to Intel-based machines is not likely to be a stroll in the park. But I
would have every confidence that he's likely to be involved in such
work and will let us all know when he's sufficiently far along to
think of making a UB version available. I look forward to it, in fact -
I love his tweening.

well I mailed him with this question and he told me that there is no rule... He says 'sometimes it runs fine, sometimes not'
So I was hoping some of you guys have been trying it. He told me he is gooing to make an upgrade of SoftVns, but I really don't feel like waiting... I think I best buy a second hand Powerbook and then, once he released the new 'Intel' compatibel version buy me a macbook.

Then my other question, is a powerbook g4 12" 1Mhz, 768 ram strong enough to work with Jitter and SoftVns ?

Now I'm using a PC for Jitter and here I have 2 Gig RAM and a 2.16 Ghz Dualcore... Jitter works GREAT, and I hope it will work just as well on the little Mac I'm thinking of buying.

Thnk you

my question: Did you get any notes by people using the new intel macs ? Do they have problems with SoftVns ?

David: "I get some notes about this, but people have mixed experiences. I think it has to do with which objects you use whether there is a problem. Can you send me some crash reports? These might clarify things."

Me again: I was wondering if there might be a small chance that there will ever be a softVNS version that runs on Windows...Now that MAXmsp and jitter run fine on a PC I'm able to work with it. It would be super, and I'm SURE I'm NOT the only one who thinks this if soft VNS would be available for PC.

Davis: "Perhaps.. but before that I will adapt to the intel mac's"

me again: If you are finished with the beta of SoftVns2 are you going to put the beta online ? I would love to test it…

David: "Eventually... right now I have a version that must be manually installed... It is not on-line yet."

I would suggest you ask these questions to the SoftVNS mailing list:

A native UB version will be better than running in Rosetta, but I
believe David still has some work before the UB version is ready.

yeah ofcorse... I'm just wondering if it 'will work properly' you know, no crashes or hangups... I'm only thinking of buying me a MAC so I can use SoftVns and I realy don't know much about them apples.

not 100% sure but i belive softVNS is not yet working on intel (or
maybe a beta version just came out??)
I used soft vns on quite a few projects on G4's and G5's and never
had problems with it

of course a G5 is better (than G4)
