soundflower issues

hi
i'm configuring my mac book pro (2.4ghz intel core duo w/2gb ram /
2007 model running os x 10.4.11) to do a live audio/video performance
with max/jitter 5.05 handling video and ableton live 7.0.10 doing
audio processing. originally i had built a vst chain in max to handle
audio, but i need a more sophisticated audio chain and thought i'd
just use live to do it. however, when i try to use soundflower to
route the audio i can't get max to hear the live audio stream. i have
live set up to input audio from my m-audio fw410 and output to
soundflower 2 ch. i have max set up to receive soundflower 2ch. dsp
setting are set to: driver = core audio fw410 / input device =
soundflower 2ch / both input source and output destination have no
options, and playthrough input is showing "unsupported." i've read a
few threads on the list that all lead me to believe that this is a
simple, straightforward setup, but i get nothing. i uninstalled and
reinstalled soundflower, downloading the latest version off the c74
site. i did my testing with a totally stripped down live setup and
using the adc~ help file in max 5. if i set max to listen to the
fw410 i get my input fine, showing on the adc helpfile meters -
switching to soundflower 2ch with live playing an audio file and
showing audio on its own meters i get nothing. i tried various
combinations of driver options in max: core audio soundflower, core
audio fw 410, etc. nothing.
i'm stumped, any advice?
thanks
bruce

Try building an Aggregate Device with Soundflower+ Audio Card, in your Audio MIDI setup. This should do, but be aware that as suggested before the latest versions of Soundflower do not work so well with Live.

Have you isolated just where the problem is? Can you send a signal from a program other than Live through Soundflower and into Max/MSP? Or, are you able to send a signal from Live through Soundflower and into a program other than Max/MSP?

The latest version of Soundflower ( Version 1.4.3 ) requires MaxMSP 5.06, which will be released soon.

thanks jabbo, brennon
jabbo, i did build the aggregate device (os x builti-in i/o
aggregated per the jackpilot manual.) my wrinkle is the m-audio fw410
interface - i need to bring audio in through that, to Live, then to
Max and back out the fw410. not sure how the aggregate "built-in"
device effects this signal chain. but i'm giving up on this line of
pursuit, and going back to my original structure - doing the audio
processing in max instead. brennon, no, i hadn't gotten around to
testing various scenarios, too short on time, hence my plea to the list.
cheers
