Soundflower iTunes->Quartz Composer

This is a Soundflower only question not MaxMSP as such.

I've searched the forums and documentation directories here and the googlecode page and soundflower seems to ship without any documentation available.

I am using it to patch iTunes playback into Quartz Composer. The only way I can get it happening is to play pick-a-box with the AudioMidi Setup Panel. ( As iTunes has no routing options, am I right? ). Sometimes I get the audio into QC at the cost of hearing it through the audio output on my Mac. Other times I hear it but it's not patched through to QC.

Sometimes it works. I would like to know what I am doing not waste time on fruitless guessing.
