Soundflower won't install....?

AQHYAgrl's icon

I have a Mac Ibook OS X 10.2 and I have downloaded Soundflowerbed. When I open it, it shows the "read me" file and the Soundflowerbed icon. There is no option to install it. When I open SFB, the MIDI controls open but it says "Soundflower is not installed!" I hope this problem can be fixed because I would like to use this program for my Podcast. What alternative programs would be good if I can't fix this? I would like to use this because I found a great Podcasting tutorial and I can't follow it without SF since that is the program is suggests. Any help would be appreciated! I'm a total novice, in case you can't tell! :)

Drag it to your /Applications folder. That installs it.

It sounds like you haven't installed Soundflower. Download the
Soundflower 1.1 installer and run it. Soundflowerbed should then run.

Running Soundflowerbed does not install Soundflower.

hope this helps,

So SoundFlower 1.1 installer is a seperate program from SoundFlowerBED 1.1 installer? I can download SFbed but when I try to download the others, it makes me open it with Stuffit and it doesn't work. It says Stuffit cannot open the files.

I have dragged it all into the Applications folder and it still doesn't work....?

Yes, the Soundflower 1.1 installer is a separate program. It's the part
that handles the audio routing. Soundflowerbed just gives you an easy
way to access the routing settings.

If you go to the Soundflower download page, you can see the separate
downloads, and installing Soundflower is explained. Let me quote from
that page:

"After downloading Soundflower, run the Soundflower Installer.pkg. You
will be asked for an administrator account password. One file
(Soundflower.kext) will be installed in the Extensions Folder."

You can't expect to drag a Stuffit-compressed file containing an
Installer into the Applications folder and expect it to work :-)

Since this topic has little to do with Max/MSP, I will continue this
discussion with you off-list.

Hi Guys, sorry to interrupt but I have a serious problem here.

Soundflower won't show up, even after I installed it a dozen times. The installer sais that the program is installed, but I can't find any files in the system and also spotlight doesn't find anything.

I'm using a PB 12", 1,5Ghz, with Mac OSX 10.4.3

Thx

----------------------------------------------------

I have the exact same problem...And it's driving me crazy!!! Somebody PLEASE help us.

I'm using a PB 15", 1.67Ghz, with Mac OSX 10.4.7.

To give more details:

First I double click on "Soundflower.pkg" It begins an automatic install. I go through the entire installation process and the computer says the installation is complete; I then click the finish button (it's the only option at that point).

This seems all great, but the problem is that no application for Soundflower 1.2 exists in my application folder OR anywhere on my computer for that matter (I know this because spotlight finds no such file). Not even a temporary folder opens up with such a file in it proceeding the "install."

No matter how many times I restart my computer and run the soundflower 1.2 installer by clicking on "Soundflower.pkg", I always get the same result. The only difference is that in every attempt after the first one, the install guide/wizard no longer gives an "install" button option, it only provides an "upgrade" button instead, presumably because components of soundflower already exist on my computer from the initial install.

In any case, normally in such a situation, I would uninstall soundflower, and then reboot, then try to install from scratch, and restart the computer again. The problem is that even the "Uninstall_Soundflower.command" file does not exist on my computer. Due to this, I cannot truly "uninstall" what pieces of soundflower may already be "installed" on my computer from the initial "install."

Furthermore, I know that the software is not truly installed because SoundflowerBED DID install successfully and when I click on it in the menu bar, it indicates that "Soundflower Is Not Installed!!"

For what it's worth too, the file "Soundflower.kext" DOES exist in my System Extensions folder.

I mention this fact because Cycling 74 notes under their "Important Installation Notes" that "After downloading, double-click Soundflower.pkg to install Soundflower. The installer will ask you for an administrator password. One file(Soundflower.kext) will be installed in the System Extensions folder. To uninstall, run the provided Uninstall_Soundflower.command shell script."

In anycase, I can't get JackOSX (a different program that serves a similar function) to work at all because it's too complicated for me, and I really really really want to use Soundflower because it is the PERFECT solution for routing audio to a recording device from another application!

This problem makes no sense to me, and at this point I just don't know what to do!

Somebody PLEASE help us :(

If you don't have any luck with Soundflower, you can post your Jack
OS X-related questions on it's support forum, at

I have Soundflower installed on my PowerBook 1.5 (PPC). And only have the Soundflower.kext file as well. As I understand it, this file has Soundflower showup as an I/O device in audio applications.

Did you open up System Preferences and see if Soundflower shows up under "Sound" as a possible Input/Output device?

I'm having the same problem as others have described. The kext file is in the extensions folder, but the Sound I/O device list in System preferences is unaffected. :(

We are currently tracking down this problem - from our testing it seems to
be limited to PPC Macs (it is installing correctly on Intel Macs for us). My
question: is anyone seeing this problem on Intel machines?

Hello,

Installed it on my Intel Mac. It did install and seems to work. The only thing I can see is that my version changed from 1.1 to 1.0.1 on the SoundFlower.ext.

I tried installing it on my PPC PowerBook (1st rev of 1.67 GHz). SoundFlower.ext installs and SoundFlowerBed installs okay. However, SoundFlower will not show up in system prefs or in SoundFlowerBed.

not me, my MacBook Pro seems happy with Soundflower.

Today I downloaded soundflower12.dmg and ran the soundflower.pkg on my Intel MBP (OS X 10.4.7). It installed Soundflower just fine (I can select it for audio output in System Preferences) but even after restart the installer does not appear to have installed Soundflowerbed (no icon appears in the finder menubar). There is no apparent file to drag to my Applications folder and no apparent uninstall script.

Soundflowerbed is a separate download and install. Actually, calling it an
install might be a stretch - you mount the .dmg and drag the application to
the folder of your choice.

Problem solved. I apparently had an older version of soundflower12.dmg which only contained the soundflower install package. The soundflower12.dmg that I downloaded today contained the soundflowerbed application and the uninstall script. soundflowerbed works great on my intel mbp.

Would also love to know what sort of collapse Jack OS X caused (off list)?

Ok, I try the new installer...

Jack OSX crashed while using it with garageband and Ninjam (www.ninjam.com). I used Garageband as the ouput source to Jack OSX and in Ninjam the Input from Jack OSX. After that I had a freeze and had to restart my computer manually.

Hope that helps.

Hi list,

I've got a question about copying variables in Java, now here's what
I want :

// code example :

int copy[] = new int[5];

int v1[] = {1,2,3,4,5};
int v2[] = {4,3,7,1,4};
int v3[] = {0,2,6,4,5};

copy = "v"+1;

// end code example

So I want to copy the 'v1' array to the 'copy' array, being able to
dynamically change the 'v' index. In for instance Flash this is done
by 'copy = _root["v"+1];' to get a reference to the Array v1. But in
Java ' "v"+1 ' is of course seen as a String. I've tried to work
around his by using somethings like ' copy = this["v"+1]; ' but this
didnt really work out.

Thanks

Can't do it this way. You'll need to either use copy = v1; or store +
resolve in a Hashtable object (search online + read javadoc for more
info), or use an array of arrays which you sub index like copy = v
[1]; where v[1] = v1;

However note that assignment of objects in both Java and Javascript
is by reference, and that it is not really a copy but referencing the
same data. To copy an array, you need to use the Array.clone()
method, the System.arraycopy method, or do it yourself in a for loop.
