spherical midi controller orbs???

Tom Haig's icon

hi everyone...
hope you're all doing good.
I've got a new project in mind involving making a synthesizer in max, using a very physical controller method. I'm pretty sure I've seen what I would describe as 'midi orbs' before - spheres in each hand that connect to a midi device and send the midi data.
I was just wondering if anyone knows what I'm talking about? who make them?
Or if anyone else knows of any very physical controller that requires full body movement, please let me know!
thanks
tom

not quite an orb but it can take input in all dimensions, up down left right turn tilt rotate and whatnot.. though I think its PC only drivers right now.. maybe you could make an external for it.

As far as body movement, I just did a performance with the ICUBEX by infusion systems, there is also the krooned gamma sold here on the cycling 74 site, these are both sensor kits that allow the user to gain tons of data from various accelerometers and gyroscopes, telling how the wearer is moving in great detail.

www.infusionsystems.com or check the hardware products on the c74 site for the krooned, they have video demos on both.

Could you be thinking of MIT MediaLab's Beatbugs?

I saw EyE from the Boredoms using exactly what you are describing. I've always been wondering who makes them. Does anyone know?

Heres a short video of it:

is this what you were thinking of???

Mac users are good to go, too. Stew from KeinDesign made a quick app for
it here just a few weeks ago:

I also have my eyes on the space navigator.
Apparently it spits out 10-bit values... I dunno about you, but I want
one... or two ;-)

i am pretty sure Taeji Sawai made those for EY3, but i am
almost positive they are one of a kind

i do know Taeji is a pretty good max/msp user : ) He
designed the software EY3 is using.

Hi,

You can use hi object for Space Navigator.
I made a little abstraction.

oh thats awesome, they must have just made that mac compatible.. I was asking for one for xmas but I realized I would rather wait till they made it work with mac. Great work Masayuki, your max externals/abstractions always rule!
