I couldn't find anything in the help files. Is it possible to unsegment segmenetd cords?

There isn't an automatic way that I know of. You can command-click to
remove individual segments.

Argh! I was hoping there was a apple command shift option secret key to press to straighten at least individual cords, global would have been even better. :(

maybe you could play with the source under lines and "midpoints" to
make an empty list if there is a simply way to segment that part of
the patch. then you could copy that part to a text file and edit the
midpoints and paste it back.. though probably still easier to
command-click.

I'm beginning to wish there was a maximum number of segments. (not a
feature request) One of my students had done auto-segment on a very
dense patch and it was very hard to read. Granted, this would have
been helped by using sends/receives and encapsulation, but it
definitely made the spaghetti much worse. Many of the patch cords
were segmented in >10 places in their efforts to weave around objects...

Good to know about the command-click shortcut, will definitely be
useful.

For me, it rarely happens that a patch cord aligned in a auto-intelligent way is beneficial for my patches. Most of the time I really need the Max 4 style aligning, i.e. only two fasten points, after which I'll usually drag the middle line segment to a human-intelligent place.

So with Max 5 I mostly end up segmenting the patch cords by hand. I think this is a drawback.

For me as well, if source is above destination I want two corners, if
its below, I want 4 corners. I prefer draging the straight lines to
better places by hand...
If this could be an option, cmd-y on patch cords will be fun again...
