Streaming audio codecs for Max/MSP?
Hi all,
A few years ago I posted to the list to find out what Max/MSP codec objects were out there (capable of Ogg and/or mp3). At the time I ended up with the OggPro suite, but it didn't work out and the latest version (1.3) crashes Max 5 upon loading. I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any other codec objects out there that are functional in Max 5? Specifically, I need to be able to encode and decode audio streams (in the same patch), tweak the compression settings, and stream to and from an Icecast server. Ideally, this solution should be totally self-contained within Max (i.e., not Soundflower in conjunction with external streaming software), as the intent is to hand it over to a performer with little Max/MSP experience. I didn't unfortunately, so am still stuck using my original means of performing this piece using Icecast under Linux (something I have to be present for and can't just 'ship' to performers). Regarding the specific oggPRO software, I just saw this message on the developer's site: "oggPRO is not available anymore. I don't have Max5 and I don't run up-to date versions of the operating systems, so I can't make sure it will work on recent systems."
Given that Ogg Vorbis is an open source codec, perhaps he would consider making his source open on Sourceforge or something and letting the community update it? I'm sure it would be useful to a number of people.

i have the oggrx~ and oggtx~ objects that work well, however they are now not maintained. i do have the latest release, and can confirm that they work well on a 10.7 machine running MAX 6. let me know if people need the downloads. They are made by Robin Gareus.
i am now running into troubles with oggrx~ and oggtx~ on Ableton 9.6 and Max for Live....what a pain.
anybody know any other externals for accessing internet streams into Max?
