struggling to route MIDI to other programs

Hi all
I'm hoping someone out there can help me send MIDI out from Max to Studio One and/or Finale. In Max, there is an error when I set ad_rewire as the Audio driver. And I don't see any rewire instruments (i.e. clients) in Studio One.

So I installed Jack. And it doesn't work for some reason. I get an error that it can't connect to JACK server. This was right after installing, so I'm guessing it might be a windows 8 thing?? When I try setting JackRouter as the audio driver in Max, it gives an error because Jack isn't running properly.

Also not seeing an option in Max to send midi out to MIDI-OX, which I also installed, and MIDI-OX doesn't seem to see Max.

So, I tried....

I am hoping to learn from someone a successful method of routing midi from max to another program. I am on Windows 8.1 using Max 7 32bit and Presonus Studio One 2.6 Professional.
