i have a question regarding stutter~. if i where to disconnect the adc~ from the stutter, using a gate~ perhaps, would it record silence and still eat up ram, or would it cease?

i have a large amount or RAM, so it doesnt really clog up my machine, i simply worry about others

It would record silence. It doesn't use more RAM the more it records, however. It is allotted the amount of RAM it needs when it is created, determined by the first argument. For most purposes, any large amount of samples you put in there will be more than musically necessary and still a laughably small amount of RAM. If you are using a machine which is young enough to run Max/MSP, you will have enough RAM. We installed Pure Data on some older machines at our theater to route MIDI, and the problems they have when processing Audio result from other bottlenecks than the RAM.

??

Perhaps you mean "young enough to run Max/MSP 4.5.5"?

I know people who run Max/MSP on the like of Lombards and Pismos (and
earlier), not particularly memory-studly boxes by today's standards.
Sure, v4.1 (or earlier!). But you can do cool stuff with it.
