Swirling Effect?

I was curious if you anyone had ideas as to how to take the X and Y axis of a jitter matrix (using the center of the image as the "origin"), and bend the x and y axis, as though the straight axes become contorted by a sine wave shape. A kind of "swirling" effect. This is an effect in photoshop, and something I am looking to replicate. I'm not really even sure with which objects to begin, so hopefully someone can toss me some ideas.

much thanks,
k.

i'm trying to create a patch based on the helpfile that will populate the two plane matrix connected to the right inlet of repos with a sine function running both vertically and horizontally. but im not really sure how it is the values stored in the two plane matrix reposition the matrix. here is my patch, if someone could give an indepth explanation of what the values in the two plane matrix MEAN in terms of how the matrix will be repositioned it would be much appreciated.
