sync max to drum machine, or vice-versa?

I just got a machinedrum, with the intentions of using it in sync with jitter video. As per title of thread - do i sync the machinedrum to max, or vice versa? Would syncing max to the machinedrum make timing/scheduling a problem in max? Would syncing the other way mean that when my cpu runs heavy, the machinedrum will lose time or fall out of sync?
On a separate note - does anyone know if can i stream the modulations / parameter locks on the machinedrum into max, or is the midi out solely the specific midi out 'machines'?
