sync~ misbehavior (BPM output)

branching of from the MIDI sync~ thread:
it was stated that sync~ only works with DSP on. now i might be loosing my mind but i swear it s giving me the BPM of incoming midi clock with DSP off. that s fine of course, if it weren t that when DSP is on it stops giving the BPM after a while. when i turn DSP off it works correctly again! (so that s without turning DSP back on)
i guess that s not expected behavior? not very cool since i m gigging with this tomorrow...

How long after? It seems to work ok here.
      Platform, version etc.

minutes or less, might also be related to how often the tempo is tweaked (although that would be very odd). i m on os x 10.5.5, max 5.0.5.
Live is feeding the midi clock, my patch de/increments the BPM and sends the new value as CC to Live. works for a bit, then jams. when i turn DSP off it works fine again (and keeps working apparently).

weirdness... the patch posted here is taken straight out of my bigger problematic patch and seems to work fine:
must be something else screwing it up...
