I'm trying to record audio and video out from max. I'm using an sfrecord (4 channels) and jit.qt.record (in realtime mode).

When I put the resultant files together in Final Cut, however, they drift slightly over long periods of time.

i would use jit.vcr to record the movie and two of the audio channels, at the same time use sfrecord~ to record the other two audio channels. will be much easier to sync up in final cut that way.
