Tap tempo help

Hey all,

I'm trying to alter the following example (image below) of using a tap tempo patch to set Ableton's tempo. This is one element in a larger patch.

Its from this example. In the example, it determines the tempo from 4 taps, and continues to re-calculate as you tap. In other words, its always listening for taps and adjusting.

Is there a way to add some functionality to this such that I can either manually control when its "listening" for bangs and when its not, or even setting it so that its using 4 or 8 taps to "decide" on a tempo, and then stops updating beyond those taps?
