Tempo Analysis/Tracking
Hello everybody!
I have a good knowledge of Max/MSP language, basically concerning sound synthesis, but I would like to move on to more automated stuff. I want to build a tempo analysis patch, so I ask to know more details about this topic.
Which is the best way to go? Is a simple amplitude thresholding going to do the job, or shall I use time/frequency domain techniques? If someone knows some reference points that would be great.
Finally I would like to know if developing an external for this job is a good idea, or is it better to program this in mxj???
Appreciation and respect...

Thanks for the suggestions, I was just looking at O.Pasquet's algorithm. It seems to do the job, but not very accurately though - probably timing issues in Max/MSP on a first glance.
Any suggestions for exploring things further in tempo analysis/tracking would be much appreciated.
Thanks
I would like to suggest his very nice book: "Creating Music by Listening":
and a paper "Downbeat Prediction by Listening and Learning":
> T.Jehan's beat~. In fact, searching maxobjects.com for beat~ brings a
also worth looking at analyzer~ which does some pretty good onset detection. (also looks at other details of the sound like brightness etc.)
Thanks guys
