The Forum is Slow

Mike S's icon

It took me 18 seconds to get to the misc forum.

I think the site in general is pretty slow as well.

Does anyone else have the same problems? It's been like this for a while now -I've kind of got used to it.

Yup, it's been slow since the back-end was changed some months ago. It's improved a bit over time but it's still pretty much the slowest forum I visit regularly.

It is very patchy... when Max 7 was released, the forum was much faster aswell... for a while... seems to be back on it's way down again :(

yeah, it's really bad. Somebody smarter than me might be able to glean something from this:

Hello, friends.

We've been looking into a few small things to push the site speed up a bit. I've got my eye on it.

@Roman Thilenius, I made a CSS fix today. I'd like to know if we are talking about the same thing, but is it the one where you see a crazy ugly stack of blue links at the top of the page?

jninek's icon

not a slowness problem but when I load the site with the browser thinner than the page is the menu bar ends up missing half of it's contents.

Like Jninek, I too am having problems with missing menu options.

I asked support and they suggested a safari upgrade. I upgraded to Safari 6.1.6 (from Safari 5.1.7) yet the problem persists. The problem also occurs in a recent download of firefox.

In my screenshots below, you can see the full menu options while the page is loading (but they are too quick to click on), and this is replaced by the 'useable' page with limited options.

Hi @Jninek, @Sid,

That simplified layout is intended mobile devices, to make it easier to engage with the forums and community content on the go. This is why the Shop and Download options disappear.

The weird spacing in the bars should be fixed, however. If you try logging out and then logging in, or clearing your cache, it might flush the changes.

It should look like this:

Are you both using desktop screens? Is it common to have your screen widths that narrow for your workflow?

If you can let me know what exactly is giving you guys trouble about the simplified layout, I can definitely look into it.

I had exactly the same page display as SID's last week, but is now OK (safari)

Thanks, Ginger.

I'm on a MacBook Pro 17". I can confirm that my pages look pretty much the same as yours (as does my 'Screenshot 2' above), right down to the fact that the content is slightly to the left of centre.

The question I need to ask, and I'm happy to be embarrassed by the answer, is what are you doing for a forum search function? I can see a magnifying glass icon next to the logout button near the top right of screen for a brief moment when the pages are loading (see my screenshot 1 above), but this icon disappears when the page is loaded and useable (the icon, and I'm guessing it's the forum search icon, is also missing from your screenshot).

While you're at it, could you fix the CSS (or whatever) so that the entry text box can be delineated more clearly (see attached image). There's no boundary on the left, right or bottom. I see this issue on both Firefox and Safari and it's sometimes hard to see where to click to start typing a response.

I don't know how it happened, but my forum search icon is back, as are the Projects, Tools, Workspaces, etc. icons

Thanks, Ginger.
