I send MIDI notes 0-127 from a generator. Now I want to thin them out depending on the values (= note pitch). The thinning itself is no problem, but the range of values. At the moment I have a patch with [split] that gives me two ranges. For example: Low notes can flow as they are while high notes are thinned out. But I rather need it continuously like "the higher you are, the thinner you get" and vice versa.

Tried several versions with [function] but they did not work.

Any idea for a value-dependent thinning method?

In the attached patch the [split] should be replaced by something smarter, smoother. Or the whole thing by a smarter method.

not what you asked, but when you want to make a generator which randomly outputs numbers, there are nice and easy methods how to create random noise with different distributions, for example you could just square the range.

Would be an option but in this case the generation is already done. After that I have a couple of lanes to process parallel streams with variations and with some modules to process the data. One module is the "Thinner", which I want to make more versatile.

Mhm ... don’t see how this should work with speedlim. Everything gets thinned, not weighting low/high values. A [function] after the [expr] does not help.

But: I like this formula. The output looks somehow similar to pink~ but is more controllable. I think I will replace my pink~ generator at the generator stage. By changing the random(0,... to something higher than zero makes the heights thinner and the lows seem to go thicker. I can use this for base values. Afterwards, in the parallel processing lanes, I can keep my split thinning method just to have another option.

if i am not mistaken this is called "linear distribution" (noise), where a pure random is called "equal distribution". 

mine is called 110.gen-linear, but i stole all of that noise stuff from peter castine anyway, i only expr´d it because of my expr syndrome.
