Toggle between wave types
Hi,
I'm new to the synth side of Max/MSP, and I was wondering how I could go about toggling between a sine, square, triangle and sawtooth wave easily? I have an object for each waveform, and I've tried connecting them to a tab control button but I can't seem to get that to work. Is there an easier or more practical way to ensure that only one waveform is active at any one time? Essentially I want some sort of tab, toggle or control that switches between each one in order in the same output.
Thanks in advance
Things like this are exactly why it's important to read not just the MSP tutorials, but also the vanilla Max ones. They may be a bit dry, but they're more essential than you might think. Read the "Controlling Data Flow" tutorial as soon as possible.
Here's an example using umenu and selector~.
If you need to avoid clicks when switching from one waveform to another, you should use matrix~ instead of selector~, as demonstrated here.
Thanks Chris, very informative. Funnily enough I have used the selector object before but forgot how to use it properly, so this helped jog my memory.
Noah I wasn't sure how to find the tutorials directly relevant to my problem but I will definitely give that one a read, thanks. I will also keep the basics tutorials in mind next time I hit a speed bump.
I know I bang on about it, but the object helpfiles are an indispensable source of info and education. It does of course demand that you know the name of the object you need, but you can search the documentation based on keywords relating to object functionality. Use the See Also link at the bottom of any object's helpfile too.
