Ableton Push programming tutorial(s)

Oct 09 2013 | 9:32 am

I’ve started up a series that is going to continue through the month of October – creating programming for the Ableton Push controller. I’m going to be exploring using the Push both in MfL and directly from Max.

You can see the first tute in the new Push area of the wiki:

The Category page contains general information about Push programming as well as link to the tutorials that I’ll be creating. If you see anything worth adding, please feel free to do so.

I could also use your help. If you have a Push, could you try the programming walk-through to see if there are things that are either wrong or that could be improved? If you find something, you can either change it, or contact me ( with info for the change.

I hope you enjoy this first tute, and will enjoy the writing I’ll be doing on it for the rest of the month!

OK – I’ve started another tutorial; the code is done, and I’ve just got to push up the documentation. Should all be in the bag by tomorrow!

This one is all about Javascript/LiveAPI connections to the Push. I got a lot of great help by both Ableton folks and Cycling magicians; hopefully you’ll find it interesting. Drop by the link above ( if you missed it) to watch me edit this document in near-realtime!

Hey Darwin,

I’m really excited about checking this out (especially the javascript stuff). I started programming some basic M4L stuff last week to get control of different elements on the Push, and am interested to see how you’re going about it. Hopefully I’ll find some time to dig in this evening and give you some feedback.

This is awesome. Thanks a ton, especially for posting the Mark Egloff stuff. Using it to make nice relative encoders right now.
