i have a 4.6 license on my iLok. i’m looking to upgrade to version 5, and hoping to change over to the Internet Authorization process. is this possible, or am i stuck on iLok forever now?? thanks.

(i need to upgrade soon so i can get back to learning…especially with the M4L news…..unbelievable!!!)

sorry for the bump, but i can’t get through to C74 and would really like to know so i can upgrade. hasn’t anyone been in the same situation and know the answer? i have my version 4.6 license on an iLok. when i upgrade to version 5 do i have to authorize that on the iLok as well, or can i use the alternative "internet authorization" just using the serial number? thanks.

I was runnig the same system. i have my 4.6 license in the ilok and max 5 authorized in the internet, after that i put the license in the ilok. but you cannot got other internet authorization. so if your format your computer you cannot get other internet authorization.

i don’t believe that’s true…about only being able to use the internet authorization once. the website states:

A Max 5 serial number comes with the ability to authorize 3 times using ‘Internet activation’. Additional authorizations are considered and granted on a case by case basis. After the initial three authorizations, we reserve the right to request additional documentation in instances of hardware failure or upgrade.

I’ll probably talk to someone first before deciding which route to go. Having an iLok scares me. seems to easy to lose.

i regret every day don’t have the authorization on HD, imagine i don’t bring the ilok whit me and want to open max… it’s annoying… and if you lose it have to buy another time. i think cycling is able to check if the machine is the same you are authorizing whit the same serial, but is only a guess…

regarding the initial question, if you had a 4.6 license on iLok, and then upgrade to Max 5, we do allow you to move the upgrade license over to internet authorization.

Essentially, you will have to explicitly ask to have your Max 5 license put on iLok, regardless of whether or not your previous license was.

All the best,

No. This is not possible as outlined here:

"Once your software has been authorized with an iLok, it is no longer valid for Challenge/Response or Internet activation."

All the best,
