Best way to play back a large amount of simultaneous audio files?
I'm working on a piece that will have about 80-100 audio files (6min, mono, 44.1/16) playing back at the same time.
The patch itself will, on loading, select a new set of samples (there would be 80-100 folders, each with 5-10 files).
That's a lot of audio playing back at the same time.
What would be the best, most efficient, way to play back that kind of audio? Loading that much audio into a buffer might not be possible, and same goes for reading that many separate tracks off the HD.
The main machine it would be running on is a 13" macbookpro with 4gb of ram and the stock 5400rpm drive.
you could make an audio mixdown with all the tracks using a DAW, like Logic? keeping the tracks spatialization but having a few tracks in the end!
Are each of the files 6 min long? If so, that might be tough to do. What is the combined file size of all the audio files you want to use?
