Clearing the Max window
Is there a shortcut to clear the Max window?
Didn’t find such a thing in the manual.
My mouse is tired traveling all the way to the second monitor just to click on the "Clear All" button.
Unless you *absolutely* require some kind of history dating back more than one line, have you considered using the message box with the newish right inlet in place of a print object? I’m just askin’.
No I need the Max window.
If there is no key command or other method, can I open it as a floating window to keep it near my working area?
Command-` to bring the Max window into focus (may have repeat depending on the number of windows open)
Command-a to select all
Jesse that is super. Thanks for that. I still would really love it if there was a message or button to clear the max window from within a patch or a single key stroke shortcut. I am sure some folks are mystified by this request but i have wished for such a thing since i first used max. I also dislike when 3rd party externals spew tons of junk in the max window. I hate a cluttered max window. Now all you grumbly old max vets can tell me i am insane and call me names and scratch your chins over why anyone wants this behavior. I don’t care. I am not interested in defending my position. It’s how i feel.
No, you’re not insane. I definitely agree that a key command for clearing the Max window would be very useful.
Cluttered Max windows are really ugly…
The "next window" shortcut isn’t short for me. On a German keyboard and a couple of windows open I have to press cmd-shift-` several times, then cmd-a and delete. If I miss the Max window I go one more round.
I don’t know about that other platform, but on a Mac it’s three key combos:
Hi, have you tried this? http://www.maxobjects.com/index.php?v=objects&id_objet=3030&PHPSESSID=b00f5ffe4900080ae251ab71e4b31241
If it works on max5 (I haven’t tried it) then you could just hook it up to [key] > [select]
ps i agree there should be a ‘in-house’ shortcut tho..
If you have [shell] then you can use applescript on a mac.

[mwc_bu] does not work here with Max5, OSX 10.5.8.
It scrolls the Max window down and says "ok" but nothing gets erased.
Shell/AppleScript is quite a big gun for a single button but however, couldn’t try it because I don’t know how to install the shell thingy.
Thanks for the suggestions, I think I will stick to the mouse or the three key commands (select Max window, select all, delete).
Perhaps this is what you tried, but just in case it isn’t; there’s an intel build of that external if you follow the link from max-objects to the guys own site. haven’t tried either myself, so no promises etc..
Yes I tried the Intel version. The database says "Max 4.6/4.5" maybe this is the cause. So far I remember the Max window was changed in Max 5.
If you’re willing to spend a bit of time hacking maxinterface.json you can get a little closer. You can create a keyboard shortcut for clearing the max window if the max window has focus.
