ctrln object midi trouble
this is probably just me being stupid but please help...
I have created my patch which includes various ctrln objects taking data from the sliders on my midi controller. Everything works fine (just as in max normally) but when i close the max window and try to use my patch in Live the controller no longer sends the data to the patch.
I'm guessing i have to set something up in lives midi preferences but i cant work out what.
please help.
thanks
woops, i of course mean 'ctlin' object
In Lives midi preferences your controller must be selected as input port with the 'Tracks' button checked. The track where your patch is loaded must have selected the same input port and the Monitor 'In' button checked.
It's possible that I'm misunderstanding you, but if all you want to do is have your MIDI controller twiddle knobs and faders on your front panel, why not use the live.slider, live.dial, etc.? They're specifically designed to "know" about incoming MIDI from the Live application. Once they're in the patch and you've saved and closed the edited patch, the usual command-M/click on knob/twiddle MIDI dial or fader to assign that you normally do in Live works just fine. The live UI objects have some parameter-savvy stuff in them - take a look at the Inspector for an object with your Clue Window open. Should be self-explanatory.
broc- i think your talking about using midi channels. my patch is in an audio channel, i should have said. thanks though...
gergory- thanks, thats what i was looking for. I just need to get to know these new live objects. all i have to do now is swap my ctlin objects for live.dial objects. thanks guys...
hello again. I have another problem that probably requires a simple answer...
I am simply trying to get the data from a single midi clip into my live patch (which is on an audio channel).
I have played a rhythm into a midi clip which is looping and i want to be able to take that information into my max patch. what object do i use and how do i achieve it?
I am finding it rather hard to know where to look for this kind of information. The max4live part of the ableton manual is rubbish and the tutorials people are posting on you tube etc are too advanced.
thanks in advance.
please ignore me. its sorted...
