Customising Matrixctrl

I've seen some nice sequencers lately programmed in max msp with pretty sweet customisations to the matrixctrl object. Just wondering how it's done step by step as i know alot has to be done outside max first. I have photoshop so hoping i can do all the external design from there. Just got the software so step by step would be really useful if there are others out there who use photoshop to customise.

Thanks

If you just need the matrixctrl to have on/off states(toggle), then it should be pretty easy, simply create graphics for each state(and possibly the background image... which only requires maybe 3-4 different images...).

if, however, you need dial behavior from matrixctrl then it's often easier to use a tool which can help you create an animation and then output that in a series of frames(i use Flash and then output to photoshop for further tweaking and formatting).

with full-featured versions of photoshop, you can import a movie or create a movie/animation and then output the frames one by one. it is the same process as creating animated GIFs, except you would want to create the animation and then simply output each image one-by-one, see here for possible step-by-step of the reverse process which should help you get started designing animation(following that, you may simply want to output each layer one-by-one), someone with more photoshop experience could probably offer better advice on the process but i hope it helps:

Cheers knobman. I'm on os x though i'm afraid!

Noob4Life i'm looking to create more than two states. Is the best way to use flash then?

Thanks for the link. Gonna hack away at that before i have to go to work :)
